Waves of Repositioning, 36 x 36 inch, Oil, ©St Germain
Waited a long time to post this painting anywhere
because so much meaning is wrapped up in here.
Since the recession in 2008 so many of us
were involuntarily repositioned - myself included.
This is what it felt like to me -
jolts and waves
on different levels of society
nothing was sure anymore
the earth tilted
changing of the guard
the choice was urgent
to go on this train of change
or not
not exactly a quiet place
Now this painting hangs in my hall
to remind myself
not to take anything good in my life
for granted!

ReplyDeleteI love it! It speaks to me. Chess is such a game of order. A dim view is taken of anyone going crazy near the board. But here there's movement. The gameboard is not as it seems (or we're used to). Everything around us (the waves) are unexpected. People get on the train, where the "game" is not played. And yet all the pieces have royal identities...thanks for sharing this one!!

You're right, all the chess pieces have royal identities, these are the only ones who are aware of being faced with the choice to go on the train or not. Thanks for your comments!
Such an expressive painting. I really like your painterly style and the way you have blended the oranges with other colours to show solidity too. Great composition too - very unsettling, as you obviously set out to make it.

ReplyDeleteHaving gone through unsettling experiences myself, makes it easier to know how to put it on canvas. Yet, when I/we all were in the midst of it, it was too difficult, too paintful. Now people are slowly climbing out of it, it is easier to look back and say, "we survived it."

As in history, some painters paint about what is relevant in their time. Hopefully it has made us "better" and more thankful:) I'm happy with the response I'm getting here. There are still a lot of people need help right now.
