NOTES
Always risk involved in crossing
will I like it or
hate the new?
Some of my paintings are inspired
by daily events.
This one by my daughter wading in the river with a big stick
in Yosemite Nat. Park
For the background I choose a spot
at the N. entrance of that park
at 9000 feet, these 2 rows of trees
were breathing pure air
Once 12 tribes crossed the river Jordan
the only promise they had was
a land of milk and honey
a symbolic event for the journey
to heaven's city
as I vaguely indicated on the right top
I choose a night setting
indicating the risk and being in the dark
about what was to come once they crossed.
Once we cross into 2013,
I hope it will soon become clear
what kind of year it will be
of course, there are those unexpected surprises
I hope they'll be the good kind:)
Love your work. It has depth, like the water.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Judy! A hit of realism with an impressionistic slant fits me well:)
DeleteA beautiful, atmospheric, symbolic painting! Love all those blue tones!
ReplyDeleteThank you Gemma. Naturally I'm inclined to blue, but I try to vary the main color of my symbolic paintings:)
DeleteWonderfully creative and well done painting ~ and post ~ Happy New Year ~
ReplyDelete(A Creative Harbor aka ArtMuseDog and Carol ^_^)
Thanks so much Carol! You're always encouraging! you have a happy New Year too!
DeleteI like it!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteGary, thank you! I very much appreciate your input!
DeleteI really like this painting, and it becomes especially meaningful with your explanation! I hope your surprises in 2013 will be the kind to bring happiness and a sense of adventure.
ReplyDeleteBlack Jack and Carol, thank you! One of my friends gave me a tip that has proved to be very rewarding: people want to know the meaning and the story behind the painting!
DeleteJust beautiful! Happy New Year and all the best wishes in 2013!
ReplyDeleteEileen, thank you so much for being a great blogger friend and always giving kind comments:)
Deletelove it - happy new year
ReplyDeleteThank you Gerald! Wishing you also a Happy New Year! That it may be rewarding in what we each do!
DeleteLinda tela! Que o Ano de 2013 seja muito feliz e que lhe traga muita inspiração. Abraço. Ailime
ReplyDeleteAilime, went to your blog and like very much what I saw. You love art!! Now we have to solve the language problem, because I don' know how to get comments translated in another language!
DeleteWhat a wonderful way to symbolise the year's end / beginning. The picture really has atmosphere and movement and I love the dress. Had you not labelled it oil I would have taken it for chalk pastel.
ReplyDeleteAll th4 best for 2013.
Scriptor,
DeleteI was thinking about getting to your blog, but you beat me to it:) Wishing you a phenomenal year! My approach here is more realistic than my other oils, maybe that's why you thought it to be an oil?
Your artistic style is beautiful. enjoyed reading the notes about the painting of your daughter with her walking stick crossing the water. A real treat. Happy New Year. genie
ReplyDeleteGenie,
DeleteAm happy you like my painting approach:) It reveals my European upbringing, (haha) - I mean with that, that my style is less realistic and more individualistic. All the best to you in 2013, Genie!
I wish you a happy and safe crossing in 2013! The painting is so beatiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit to my Zeeland!
Reader Wil,
DeleteThank you for your New Years wishes! Hope you had a great Christmas season with your family:) If I think about Holland, I think about Zeeland, not about the Hague, Zeist, or Ede, where I lived as an adult. Childhood memories are powerful!
The crossing for me is different this year! I see off in the distance the palace of the King! I appreciate how the painting gives me a sense of comfort. At the same time knowing the coldness of the water will bring challange in the crossing. It is a New Year like none before! I wish you much Joy and look forward to seeing the new work you will do! Blessings to you and your family!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Romilda. We always have that special connection! Wishing you will overcome this year all the rough spots in your situation. Your progress in art is nothing short of incredible! By the way, do you have a blog here? I click on your name and pic, but I can't get connected to you somehow... Let me know how I can reach you:)
ReplyDeleteHi Jeannette!
Beautiful work.
